Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) is a form of physiotherapy that focuses on habituation, gaze/gait stabilization and balance. The goal of VRT is to alleviate primary and secondary problems caused by vestibular disorders. Symptoms experienced with vestibular disorders include:
  • Vertigo
  • Dizziness
  • Visual disturbances
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Imbalance

Is Vestibular Rehabilitation Right For You?

Using evidence based techniques, VRT assesses and treats posture, gait, fall risk, eye control, neck biomechanics, neurological screening and much more. VRT will assess and treat the following:

  1. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
  2. Vestibular migraine
  3. Unilateral/bilateral vestibular loss
  4. Post-traumatic vertigo
  5. Multifactorial disequilibrium
  6. Balance/Unsteadiness

What to Expect?

The first appointment consists of a thorough assessment. Positioning tests will be performed to diagnose the source of your symptoms. If symptoms are found to be vestibular in origin, expect immediate treatment and home exercises.

Benefits of Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy

VRT can be extremely effective at decreasing or eliminating vestibular symptoms. We take it a step further to work on balance and function, decreasing balance disturbances and fall risk.
