Who are we?
The Prota Clinic Cosmetic Vein Treatment Center is a privately funded and operated clinic dedicated to the treatment of vein pathology using the latest cutting edge technology. Our Staff/Physicians have researched and received training in the latest most advanced proven forms of therapy available for the treatment of veins.
There has been a significant and revolutionary advancement in the treatment of venous insufficiency and other vein pathology over the last decade. Procedures such as the “traditional” venous stripping are gradually becoming obsolete.
We have researched and trained in the use of the newest cutting edge technologies and have dedicated ourselves to bringing them here to Manitoba. We want to give you the opportunity to take advantage of the most modern vein treatment center whose focus is dedicated towards the latest advanced vein treatment procedures. Our treatments include procedures such as: laser venous ablation, radiofrequency ablation, microphlebectomy and sclerotherapy.
We are able to treat larger venous insufficiency, perforator insufficiencies, varicose veins, spider veins and telangiectasia using the latest technologies available. Some technologies we are planning to bring to our treatment center in the future have yet to be approved for use in Canada such as ohmic thermoablation. This technology is presently being used in Europe and the United States for some time.
Ohmic thermoablation has been shown to be a very effective and safe treatment of smaller spider veins and especially telangiectasia on the face. It is pending approval in Canada and we will be bringing this new modality to our clinic as soon as it becomes available.
What is changing?
Vein treatment has traditionally been viewed as a cosmetic procedure. As a result, treatment of veins in places like the legs have not been given as much attention compared to other pathology within the medical field.
Venous procedures have been shown to improve many symptoms related to venous insufficiency beyond the cosmetic appearance of varicose veins or spider veins. Tiredness or feeling of heaviness in the legs with or without swelling can be associated with venous insufficiency and can be remedied with treatment.
Venous ablation has also been shown to decrease the number recurrences of leg ulcers due to venous insufficiency as well as improving healing times. Venous insufficiency has also been shown in some patients to contribute to restless leg syndrome.
In the correctly diagnosed patients (having eliminated other causes for restless leg syndrome and confirmed venous insufficiency), who received treatment, 80% experience significant resolution of symptoms.
